VA

VA makes me think of Jay-Z’s “H to the izz O, V to the izz A. Fo schizzle my nizzle used to dribble down in VA.”

Went down to Lynchburg, Virginia with Leigh Anne, Paul, and Christine to visit Kevin. Virginia is beautiful. I would say even more gorges than Ithaca.

Gorges… there are definitely things to jump off of into the water in Virginia. Kevin and his friends do it. It would be fun for me if I wasn’t afraid of heights.

On Sunday after church, Kevin took us to this small waterfall area where people jump off the cliffs. I wasn’t as scared and knew I was definitely going to jump. So I did, after at least 30 minutes of building up the effort and courage. I was the first one to do it! (Excluding Kevin)

The next day, we went to a bridge. Kevin and his friends go there a lot to jump and swim. In my mind, I knew I was going to do it. But when I climbed over the edge and looked down, I couldn’t. Kevin kept trying to encourage us, but it just made me more nervous. It was pretty funny with his goofy antics, but it made my hands and feet sweat and my left hand and stomach cramp up. I stood on the edge for a long time. At least an hour. But I never jumped. Leigh Anne and Kevin both said that I would regret it. And they are so right! I do regret.

Next time—I hope there is a next time. If not in Virginia, some other bridge over deep water. It’s probably the initial jump that’s scary. But once I get over that, I think it would be fun to keep jumping into the water. And do fun diving tricks! Like Kevin’s swan.

Some other memorable things: Sheetz. Snowflex. Seeing fireworks at Snowflex. Snowboarding tricks. Hearing Southern twang. Swimming. Late night conversation with Leigh Anne. Seeing Chick-Fil-A. Passing by Harrisburg. S’mores. Hearing a good message.

It was a fun trip. With good friends, good food, and awesome scenery. You just can’t beat that view.

Gorges!

Went to Ithaca with Faith to visit Ruth and Caleb last Tuesday to Friday. I’ve always liked the Cornell campus; the architecture is pretty and the view from up top anywhere is amazing. Faith and I got to explore downtown a little bit. We went to Ithaca Commons and I love that there are second-hand clothing stores. Reminded me of China shopping in that there are only one-of-a-kind clothes—no mass reproduction of just one shirt.

We also got to check out some cute shops with old jewelry and record labels. Can I just say for the record (haha pun) that I really like record labels’ album covers? They could make for some kind of trendy decoration on your wall.

The reason why I wanted to post about Ithaca was because I noticed a lot of nice architecture and artsy looking buildings. I felt like every church we passed by was beautiful. And since I was with Faith and we talked about her wedding, I got to thinking about engagement/wedding photos. And I think I would like to have my photos taken there. Whenever Faith was driving around, I saw so many places where I immediately thought “That spot has potential for a nice engagement photo.”

So this is a suggestion for anybody getting married soon and a note to self: Take your engagement/wedding photos in Ithaca.
