“Trafficking seems to be regulated to the realm of women and select activists. It’s not considered hard politics, sidelined by other issues like the economy and more serious heavy weights of war and peace. In the general social fabric, most will see trafficking as wrong, “there are other issues that need attention and money to NGO’s and other non profits will ease the conscience and my part...

How to Raise a Global Kid →
I haven’t read Newsweek in a while, but came across this article about globalization in this modern society. This article expresses well several points I have realized since my year of teaching English in Taiyuan.  1. Preparing American children for the future, which will be a global one if America wants to be prosperous, means giving them opportunities to learn about other countries (and...

“Oh, you can do anything.”
– A woman at Year Up, in response to my degree in English Literature. Her tone was so matter-of-fact; I think this is the first positive response I’ve ever heard about my degree. So empowering!

“I definitely would want your input/wisdom… I think you know me well enough...”
– Joanna. Thank you for saying that; it was really affirming, especially coming from you! I am blessed, because it is He who works through me. I am nothing apart from the Vine; I am just a branch.

Grandma's apartment
The view from my grandma’s apartment in Kowloon: But her vision is going, so the view for her might look something like this instead: Bokeh is beautiful. I have a sad, but funny story about my grandma. I will try to write it soon.

In Hong Kong
Left New York at 1:40 AM on May 13th and arrived in Hong Kong around 5:00 AM on May 14th. Time travel always makes me tired. Thought I should try to update this while I’m traveling. Below is a photo taken during my flight. We flew westward from New York and passed through the North Pole.  I couldn’t tell if those were clouds or snow.

Women in menswear. →
caryrandolph: At a party a friend and fellow fan of the gentleman’s wardrobe said in passing that she didn’t “care about women’s fashion”. I see her point (and at times agree with it) - aesthetically menswear succeeds where women’s does not. Still, that comment gave me pause since, of course, she is a (very beautiful) woman and wearing clothes that are quite à la mode. A lady might argue...

Turning 23 was a great occasion. I was surprised with a fantastic party planned by the sweetest roommates/teammates, along with other members of the organization who came to visit. I love surprises—they’re spontaneous and sweet. L-R: JoLyn, Jon, Stephanie, Susie, DANGER WOLF (Jeff), me, Aly, Kristin, Matt, Elizabeth, Felicia, Danielle, Tanya Prior to my 23rd birthday, I was...

I wrote this a while ago and wasn’t sure if I wanted to make it public, because I’m anxious of what people may think or say of me. Courtney (click for her music page!) shared a similar experience—her encounter with a homeless guy— during small group this week. So, here’s to being vulnerable…! A couple of months ago at the “True Women Real Men” event...

I ran into my prom date at the public library  →
This post articulates well the common struggle of pursuing your ambitions and not doing so or not being able to do so; Idealism versus reality. Here is an edited excerpt: “But there’s something so cosmically brave and correct and optimistic and honorable in believing on some level that you can make something in this world and survive… Who is willing to gamble with their grocery ...
